There is big news in the world of entertainment conglomerates. Rumor has it CBS head honcho Leslie Moonves recently had meetings with Sony bosses in Japan about acquiring Sony Pictures Television as part of the CBS media family.
CBS denies the claims that a Sony-related visit took place, but that hasn't stopped rumor-mongers from insisting the media company is looking to buy SPT assets, Advanced Television reports. The rationale is that Sony president and CEO Kazuo Hirai could finally be open to an offer after years of declaring SPT would never be sold.
Sony Pictures Television currently produces content for both CBS and its rival networks. Examples include The Young and the Restless, which airs on CBS, and Days of our Lives, which currently airs on NBC and is produced by SPT in association with Corday Productions. If CBS acquires Sony, it would stand to reason it will acquire DAYS, as well. SPT is also responsible for distribution of The Young and the Restless.
Other shows SPT produces include The Blacklist, Better Call Saul, Bloodline, Jeopardy!, Wheel of Fortune, and The Dr. Oz Show.
