Who needs Santa Claus when the casting gods have given Days of our Lives fans the very thing they wanted this Christmas: Bryan Dattilo has been placed back on contract! Deadline reports that the actor has been promoted to series regular.
Dattilo took on the role of Lucas in 1993 and has had several ups and downs at the NBC soap opera. DAYS executives decided to give Lucas "a rest" amid a series of moves to keep the show's budget in check back in 2001. Thankfully, he reprised the role in 2002 -- but on recurring status. He was placed back on contract later that year but was once again bumped down to recurring in 2010. The last time he was on contract status was in 2012.
More recently, Days of our Lives fans were crushed when Lucas took off to Europe in December of 2018 with a lackluster goodbye storyline. Even the actor himself thought "that was the time it was gonna be [the end]," but much to his -- and fans' -- pleasant surprise, the show brought him back again in 2019.
As for what's ahead for Dattilo, Deadline previews that Lucas will be part of a new storyline with his on-again, off-again love Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney) and the characters' daughter, Allie Horton (Lindsay Arnold), that will start airing in March of 2021.
