The 39th Annual Creative Arts and Entertainment Daytime Emmy Awards were presented on Sunday, June 17, at a gala held at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles. The event was hosted by Byron Allen.
The Creative Arts portion of the Daytime Emmys honors excellence in mostly non-acting categories -- the behind-the-scenes technology that makes it possible for there to be episodes of the soaps: Outstanding Technical Direction, Outstanding Achievement in Make-up, Outstanding Achievement in Costume Design, and more. Awards are also handed out to non-soap programming, including categories likes Outstanding Writing in a Children's Series.
General Hospital led the pack of winners with 6 total wins in the 12 traditionally soap-only categories. It marks the third year in a row that the ABC soap led the pack of Creative Arts winners.
"The Daytime community is well and prospering as witnessed by this overwhelming turnout honoring the best in Daytime television in more than fifty categories," said Malachy Wienges, Chairman, NATAS. "With Byron Allen hosting and so many stars here to salute those who work so hard behind the scenes, it's a wonderful night for Daytime Television."
The Daytime Emmy Awards are presented to daytime television programs that are broadcast nationally between the hours of 2 a.m. and 6 p.m. The eligibility period for this year's Daytime Entertainment Emmy Awards was January 1, 2011, to December 31, 2011.
This year, six of the eligible soaps were nominated for Emmys in the various technical categories. Each of the soaps eligible won at least one award. The Young and the Restless won three trophies. All My Children, The Bold and the Beautiful, and Days of our Lives picked up two. One Life to Live won one Emmy in the Lighting category.
