General Hospital viewers watched the role of Sam McCall be recast this summer after actress Kelly Monaco had to take a brief break from the ABC soap opera following some breathing issues that happened when the show resumed production in July. Actress Lindsay Korman-Hartley (ex-Cara Castillo, All My Children; ex-Arianna Hernandez, Days of our Lives; ex-Theresa Lopez-Fitzgerald, Passions) temporarily stepped into the role while Monaco quarantined and took COVID-19 tests -- which thankfully all came back negative. And now Monaco is publicly addressing her exit and recast for the first time.
"I must thank the amazing #GH fans for all of the love and support they have shown me in the past couple of weeks," she tweeted. "It's been a crazy year and I feel so blessed, grateful and humbled to be able to continue to do what I love... 20yrs and counting with @ABC.. what an honor!!!"
Monaco, who is said to be healthy and back filming at GH, added a second tweet that thanks Korman-Hartley for taking over the role of Sam while she was briefly sidelined.
"I also wanna give a huge shout out to @lindsayhartley for stepping in and doing a beautiful job playing Sam. Girl... you kicked ass. Way to go," she wrote before teasing, "Stay tuned... @GeneralHospital is just heating up!"
So, what does the future hold for Korman-Hartley, who was widely embraced by fans and lauded for her brief performance as Sam? GH hasn't announced any plans to find a permanent place for her on the canvas, but some fans hope that might change -- and it seems Monaco does, too. A fan tweeted that it would be fun to see Sam get a long-lost twin sister, and Monaco supported the fun thought with a retweet. Check it out below and then tell us in our Comments section how you feel about Monaco's return and the idea of Korman-Hartley taking on a GH role such as Sam's twin sister.
