Not a woman in the world would envy the difficult situation that General Hospital's Willow Tait (Katelyn MacMullen) has on her plate right now. Though she and Michael (Chad Duell) are in love and want to be together, the couple has decided to keep the news of their reunion a secret while Chase (Josh Swickard), who's still madly in love with Willow, fights for his life.
"It's definitely a pickle!" MacMullen says with a laugh about her alter ego's very tough romantic situation. "It's very overwhelming, and Willow feels a tremendous amount of guilt because Chase is someone that she loves and cares for, and she might be trying to do the right thing, but at the same time, she's lying, which she doesn't like doing -- to him, to his family, to even Michael's family, to everyone."
MacMullen adds that all of the lying and sneaking around makes Willow "feel kind of alone, besides Michael knowing and being there with her," and that the character is becoming quite overwhelmed with those negative feelings. "She feels very, very guilty."
But then again, muses the actress, what else could Willow do? "If she were to tell the truth, how could that affect Chase's progress or his health?!" she points out. "So, there are days where she knows she's doing the right thing. It's a balance."
Some might think that the more Willow sees Chase struggle with his health issues, the more reconnected she might feel to him. After all, it would be difficult to close your heart to a former flame who might be dying! So, could Willow actually fall back in love with Chase and decide that she wants to be with him rather than Michael?
"I think that's definitely a possibility, just because they're spending so much time together," MacMullen teases. "Willow is head over heels in love with Michael, but you never know!"
Even if watching Chase fight for his life doesn't change Willow's mind about wanting to be with Michael, it is entirely possible that Michael will grow tired of his and Willow's charade and decide to walk away from her!
"They have a pretty strong bond and a mutual understanding for the situation, but I feel like [when it comes to Michael], Willow is thinking, 'How long are you going to go along with this? You want to get back to your life, so how long can you keep this up'" she points out. "So, there is always that possibility of the situation being too much for them. Right now, I don't know, but that is definitely a possibility, and something that could happen."
Fans will have to keep tuning in to General Hospital to find out how Chase's medical situation will pan out and how long Michael and Willow will keep up their charade. But there's no wait to find out what MacMullen thinks about working with Duell and Swickard. The actress spoke with Soap Central about the extremely emotional scenes they shared last year, which led to her second Daytime Emmy nomination. To get the scoop, click here.
