Ellen Weston has been named the new head writer of Guiding Light.
"I am delighted to have Ellen lead our already strong writing team. Ellen's strong creative sensibilities, combined with her knack for telling powerful stories, will provide viewers with exciting drama and character developments," praised Mary Alice Dwyer-Dobbin, executive in charge of production for Procter & Gamble Productions.
Outside of the soap opera genre, Weston has writing and production credits on And The Beat Goes On: The Sonny and Cher Story, See Jane Run, The Disappearance of Vonnie and the Broadway musical, Josephine.
The search for a new head writer began last month when Millie Taggart announced that she'd be leaving her position as head writer for personal reasons. Prior to that, Lloyd "Lucky" Gold was removed as head writer in September and As The World Turns co-head writer Carolyn Culliton was brought on board to oversee head writing responsibilities with Taggart. Gold remains on as an associate writer and Culliton will continue as co-head writer.
Weston's role as head writer takes effect on January 6, 2003.
