Hot on the heels of the news that The Young and the Restless alum Tammin Sursok (ex-Colleen Carlton) signed on for a guest-starring role on Neighbours comes news that the Australian soap opera has been canceled.
The show's tragic fate was brought about by UK broadcaster Channel 5 recently deciding to drop the show from its schedule, which left Neighbours' producers with a funding gap (the British network was a key broadcast partner in the series).
Writing on the soap's official Twitter account, producers said they were "so sorry" but had "no option but to rest the show."
The producers also shared, "To our amazing, loyal fans, we know this is a huge disappointment, as it is to all of us on the team. We thank you for all your messages and support and promise to end the show on an incredible high."
Set and filmed in Melbourne, Neighbours was first broadcast in Australia in 1985 and launched on the UK's BBC One a year later. It became a huge hit in both countries and helped launch the careers of numerous stars, including Kylie Minogue, Russell Crowe, Guy Pearce, and Margot Robbie.
The final episode of Neighbours is scheduled to air in June.
