This year's Levi's GranFondo charity bicycle ride took a tragic turn this past Saturday when one of the contestants lost control of his bike on a windy stretch of mountain road and fell to his death. The Young and the Restless' Michael Muhney (ex-Adam Newman) was a participant in the race and witnessed the horrifying accident.
"There was a cyclist two people in front of me who went over a cliff & died. It was awful to see. Prayers for his family," the shaken actor reported on Twitter.
Later, Muhney retweeted a message sent by former professional road racing cyclist Levi Leipheimer that reads, "I'm struggling to find the words to express my heartbreak from yesterday, I'm truly at a loss. Please don't take your life for granted."
Despite the unsettling turn of events, Muhney, who last aired on Y&R in January of 2014, managed to finish the race in 5 hours and 49 minutes. "Not too shabby for an amateur," he wrote.
