This summer in Genoa City is shaping up to possibly be one of the hottest yet: Melissa Claire Egan is reprising her role as The Young and the Restless' Chelsea Lawson.
EW reports that the actress will begin taping new episodes this May and will be back on the canvas in early summer. Chelsea's return at this moment is likely no accident: as Soap Central previously reported, the powers that be recently recast the role of Adam Newman, with Mark Grossman stepping into the role of Chelsea's longtime love.
Egan announced in January of last year that she was leaving the soap after "six wonderful years." At the time, she promised that she would eventually be back: "This isn't goodbye. Truly. Just goodbye for now." Then, when Chelsea left Genoa City with her son Connor in February 2018, the show left the door wide open for her return.
As soon as news of her summer return broke, Egan took to Twitter to remind fans of her 2018 promise: "Told ya it was just 'goodbye for now'!!!" she teased, adding: "This is gonna be goooooood."
Melissa Claire Egan made her daytime debut in 2006 as Annie McDermott on ABC's All My Children. The actress was an immediate hit with fans and also was quick to earn critical acclaim. She snagged Daytime Emmy nominations in the Outstanding Supporting Actress category in 2009, 2011, and 2012. After All My Children ended in 2011, Egan joined the cast of Y&R as Chelsea Lawson and picked up two more Emmy nominations in 2013 and 2014.
At this time, it's unclear what brings Chelsea back to Genoa City, but fans of the CBS soap opera are no doubt hoping for an Adam/Chelsea reunion. Will the popular pair retain their magic with a new actor in the shoes of Adam Newman? Fans will have to keep watching Y&R to find out!
UPDATE (June 11, 2019): Egan shared a photo of herself with Joshua Morrow (Nick Newman) along with the caption, "Back at it with this guy! Can't WAIT for you guys to see this stuff!" You can check out the photo below.
Egan makes her first appearance on June 28, 2019.
